Assignments for Tuesday May 4th

There are no reading assignments for Tuesday's class; just be sure to begin revising your research paper, which is due Thursday May 6th.

In other news, I have decided not to give a final exam during finals week. Instead, we're going to have a final project and accompanying in-class writing assignment. The first part of this final project is a portfolio. You'll need to collect all of your writing from the semester into a single folder and bring it with you to our last class on Thursday May 13th. In class, you will have one hour to write an analysis of your work over the course of the semester. For now, you should begin collecting all drafts of everything you've written this semester. I'll answer questions in class on Tuesday.

Discussion Board:

  4. The reader should prefer a story with action and dialogue to one with none.
  5. The reader should have seen the book in a movie.
  6. The reader should be a budding author.

  1. The good reader should have a imagination, a memory, a dictionary, and some artistic sense. These four elements allow the reader to understand the writers purpose. A good reader might want to try and figure out what the characters might be thinking even if the author doesn't go into it directly. This calls on a readers imagination and memory. A good writer leaves many unanswered questions allowing the reader to debate to themselves over the meaning behind the work.

  2. A good reader should, have good memory, an imagination, an artistic sense and can relate to the characters in the story. All these elements help create what people feel to be a good reader. Books should not be read because you are you are told to do so, but rather for the reasons of enjoyment. If a person lacks these for main skills, then they are not a good reader. When reading a good memory is need to relate and comprehend to what takes place in the story. An imagination is also an element that adds spice to your memory, challenging the thoughts of your self and the author. An artistic sense and being able to relate adds to comprehension of a story, an article and etc. When you are able to relate to the authors characters in the story creates a relationship with the author. Last but not least an artistic sense is what helps in writing of your own. The fact that a person can write or share their feeling/thoughts through writing is what we call artistic sense. These are not the only elements to a good reader but they are four major starts

  3. A good reader should have an imagination so he/she can have a good view point on whatever he/she is reading. They are able to feel the feeling of the genre of the book, magazine, or even an article. A good reader should have a good memory so that they are able to remember what it is they are reading and get a good understanding on what the author is trying to say. A dictionary is also needed when becoming a good reader for the simple fact you may come across a word that you may not know or have seen before. To have memory and imagination you would have to know what it is you are reading or analysing. Being able to put a definition to a word would be a good help on your part. Last but not least a good reader should have some artistic sense so he/she can relate or even feel what they are reading. I believe imagination, memory,a dictionary, and having an artistic sense is a good way to start off in being not only a good but a wondreful reader. the reason to saying that is because all for of these choices all tie together in to one big characteristic of becoming the best.

  5. A good reader should concentrate on the social-economic angle, the reader should have imagination, have a memory, and have a dictionary. I think if the reader concentrates on the social-economic angle they arent just looking at the story in one way theyre thinking about it in different ways. The reader should have imagination because it helps the reader imagine and picture whats going on in the story. The reader should have a memory because if one day the reader is reading, then a few days later the reader doesnt remember anything now they have to go back and read the chapters or pages over again. I think a reader should have a dictionary because there might be some words that the reader may not understand or know the meaning of so if they have a dictionary they can understand the story more by knowing the meaning to word. I also think in my opinion a good reader looks back a page before from where they started off to refresh their memory.

  6. A good reader should have a good imagination, good memory, a dictionary and some artistic sense. A reader should have a good imagination for he can be able to create images as he reads. He should also have a good memory to be able to remember everything he or she has read and be able to understand it. a dictionary should also be required just in case he or she does not understand a certain word. And last but not least a artistic sense to be able to feel what they are reading. all these are examples of a great reader.

  7. A good reader should have an imagination, a good memory, a dictionary and artistic sense. A good imagination help the reader picture the world that the writer is describing making it feel more vivid and real. A good memory is need to be able to recall events that transpired previously in the book that the reader can look back on and see what led to the current events. A dictionary is a helpful tool to help understand word that a person doesn't know . Artistic sense lets the reader understand why the writer chose to write about the topic and why some events where told in certain ways.

  8. A good reader should have imagination, artistic sense and to be able to identify him/herself with the characters. When reading a book, imagination is essential because the reader has the power to stage the scene; rather than a movie where the viewer have everything done for him already. the more vivid imagination the reader has, the more unique experience he/she will have reading a book.
If the reader is able to identify him/herself with the certain character from the book, he/she will have a better understanding of the plot. The story will become more personal and important.

A good reader should be able to have a vision and an imagination. This helps the reader to be able to analyze any type of readings. Memory is an important factor in being a good reader. A good reader should be able to remember what they are reading in order to comprehend what the author is trying to convey. Also, a good reader should have a dictionary to be able to understand the meaning of words and be able to define them. A good reader consists of many things. Someone who understand what they are reading and can briefly explain what they have read is a good reader

  10. A good reader should have an imagination, a good memory, a dictionary and artistic sense. Imagination allows a reader to see and imagine what the author is talking about and could actually see more then what the author is talking about. As a reader is important to have a dictionary because it allows you to understand what the author is talking about and also remeber what you have read.
