Assignments for Thursday March 25th

For Thursday's class, please read

  • Chapter 8: Organizing and Drafting an Essay (351 - 379)
  • King Curtis's Echo by Max Thayer (191 - 194)

Also, come to class prepared to begin working on your research paper outline and introduction. (You might want to bring some of your source material with you.)

Discussion Board

Analyze the way in which ideas are organized in the essay by Max Thayer. How would you describe the structure? Is it effective? If the ideas were ordered differently, could the overall impact be stronger? How? Be sure to read Chapter 8, as well as King Kurtis's Echo, before attempting to answer this question.

  1. The structure of this story is not like a normal structure. It not formatted with a thesis then main point, sub points ans sub sub points if neede. This story basically just tells a story( if thats makes sense to say). It draws the reading in at the beginning and keeps them interested through the story. the story was very vivd and i could picture everything that was going on. The only thing that should be changed is letting the readers know the focus and the thesis if this story.

  2. The story and the way it was structured made me want to continue reading to find out the main point of the story. I could picture everything that was going on in my head. I like storys that keep the main idea as a sort of mystery in the beginning, so I don't think it would be more effective if ordered differently.

  3. Max Thayer was just telling a story without revealing the main idea until the end. Writing it that way made me want to read on to see what point he was trying to make, i dont think writing it differently would make the impact stronger.

  4. I thought that it was a good story over all but I didn't really like it my self. I just wasn't interested but his sturcture was well put together as the whole story was
