Read Chapter 13: Writing the Research Paper (pgs. 509 - 559).
Complete final draft of Writing Project #2: Research Proposal.
For Discussion:
1. What are the pros and cons of online sources?
2. Even better than 2nd-degree sources (like books and articles) are 1st-degree sources (first-hand knowledge from an expert in the field). If you could interview anyone for your research topic, who would you choose and how would the experience enhance your paper?

1) There are many pros and cons of online sources .
ReplyDeleteSome pros are that there is a wide variety of information you can get from the internet. The internet has many search engines that you can use and you can do it right in your own home anytime you want.
Some cons are sometimes the information you get is not factual. Reading an encyclopedia , you would have footnotes , online you don't.
2) I preferably like 2nd and 1st degree sources. I like to get information from books because online sources aren't 100% accurate.
If I could interview someone for my research topic it would be someone from the Humane Society International. This would help make my paper way better because it would give me more information about whats happening around the world to animals.
Some pros for online sources are being able to find a wide variety of material. The internet may even direct you to a 2nd degree source if needed. You are also able to find information from all around the world and different time periods. The con for online sources are that some of this information my not be the actual truth it could be someones' opinion.
ReplyDeleteIt not a bad thing to get information from a 1st degree source, you just have to be certain who wrote the article online.
If I could interview anyone for my research paper it would be an actual sex addict. This may help me inhance my paper. So I could see both the view points of myself, maybe one of their friends/family member and the addict.
1.Some pros of online sources is that your able to view a wide variety of material. Online sources may also give you a link to connect to your 2nd degree source. The cons about online sorces are you may not get the fact about the topic you are researching. Most of the time online sources are peoples opinion.
ReplyDelete2. Second degree sources are also good but the only thing is that it may take a longer time to find the information you are looking for.
Of I had to choose someone to interview for my research paper it would be an actual sex addict. This will enhance my experience because I'm able to compare the viewpoints of several people, the addict, a friend/family member and myself.
The internet was a great invention. It is very convenient for people to do many different things. Online sources have their good and bad sides. Before I really learned how to browse the internet I only knew on the cons when it dealt with serious topics, for school projects and research efforts. It would be hard to find credible information on the web. It was as if all the information I would find was derived from regular people with their biased opinion on the topic. i realized everything on the web is not to be used for class assignments. However there are pros on online sources. Usually there is some truth to each article. Being able to gather information from various articles, in a short amount of time is helpful.
ReplyDeleteAlso i feel secondary sources are more credible for research topics. books are categorized into non fiction, and fictional genres. It is more tedious and more time consuming but I feel it is more effective
If i could interview someone on my research topic it would be women in the law field, women in the law enforcement field and men and women in the business world.I would like to see the similarities and differences in behavior in all of these particular career fields.
